About RadarScope 5.6 for Mac
RadarScope is an AMS award-winning weather visualisation app developed by Base Velocity, LLC (a DTN company) for meteorologists, public safety officials, storm spotters and weather enthusiasts who want direct access to native, single-site radar data, not a simplified national overview. Available as a universal app for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Watch and Apple Vision, RadarScope requires macOS 13.5 or later on Mac. Version 5.6, released August 12, adds a new probabilistic category to the day 3 SPC outlook, improved download error reporting, optimised radar-switching behaviour, updated NWS zone names and city database, and a host of bug fixes across map jumping, mPING icons, coordinate display, and watchOS full-screen toggling. What makes RadarScope different from other weather apps is that it shows true radial NEXRAD data in its native format, not smoothed map tiles, so trained users can read fine detail like velocity couplets, hail spikes, mesocyclone hook echoes and debris ball signatures with a level of precision that consumer weather apps just don’t provide. The base app purchase includes a full suite of single-site radar products for the US, Canada, Guam, Denmark, Finland and Germany, 6-frame radar loops, tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings, NWS-generated storm tracks with hail and mesocyclone attributes, and Spotter Network and mPING integration — all minus ads and invasive data practices. For those who want to get into the weeds, there are two optional Pro subscription tiers that include longer loops, lightning data, SPC outlooks, satellite and MRMS products, forecast model data and multi-decade radar archives.
