About PCalc 4.11.5 for Mac
PCalc is a scientific calculator for macOS by James Thomson of TLA Systems Ltd. PCalc is designed for scientists, engineers, students, programmers and anyone who wants a lot more depth than the built in Calculator app can give you. PCalc first launched decades ago, has been updated ever since and earned Apple’s Editors’ Choice badge along the way, and is always updated for new macOS releases on day one. After 4.11.4 fixed the missing buttons in the tape window, 4.11.5 is a minor maintenance release fixing an issue where the menu bar widget appears only as a menu. What makes PCalc more than just a simple calculator is the incredible range of what it can do, an optional RPN (Reverse Polish Notation) mode, multi-line display, fully customisable button layout editor, huge library of unit conversions and scientific constants (now updated to the latest CODATA 2022 values), paper tape with notes, multiple undo and redo and native support for hexadecimal, octal and binary calculations. A dedicated menu bar widget keeps a fully functional calculator just a keystroke away without opening the main app window, and PCalc integrates with macOS Shortcuts and Quick Note. There’s a lighter side to the app too, with tiny animated Easter eggs hidden in its About screen, a tradition developer James Thomson has carried through decades of updates.
