About BlueHarvest 8.5.1 for Mac

BlueHarvest is a Mac utility from independent developer zeroonetwenty that automatically removes the hidden metadata files macOS leaves behind on drives and shared folders. Whenever a Mac writes to a USB key, SD card, music player, file server, or any non-Mac disk, it tends to scatter .DS_Store files, ._ AppleDouble resource fork files, and hidden folders such as .Trashes. These files take up little space, but they can clutter a drive, confuse other operating systems and devices, and show up in version control systems and shared archives. BlueHarvest handles this in the background. It removes these items as they are created or modified, so a disk stays metadata-free without any manual effort. It can also tell HFS and APFS volumes apart from non-Mac volumes, so it targets the disks where this clutter causes problems. When a one-off cleanup is needed, users can Control-click a disk or folder in Finder and choose "Clean using BlueHarvest". The same menu option removes Mac metadata from zip archives before they are sent to Windows or Linux users. The app also includes a Storage Cleaner feature, added in version 8, to free up extra disk space.

Key Features

Control

— clicking any disk or folder in Finder offers a "Clean using BlueHarvest" option for an immediate, on-demand cleanup.

Zip archives destined for non

— Mac users can be cleaned the same way, so recipients don't receive stray Mac metadata inside them.

HFS vs. Non

— HFS Awareness

BlueHarvest distinguishes Mac

— formatted volumes from non-Mac volumes, so it applies its cleanup where it is needed rather than on every disk.
