About Sonic Academy SA76 1.0.3 for Mac
SA76 is a compressor and limiter plugin from Sonic Academy that emulates the classic 1176 hardware unit. Sonic Academy's own product page describes it as combining the sound of vintage hardware with modern control, and presents it for drums, plosive synth sounds, vocals, taming snare transients, and general mix glue. Version 1.0.3 is confirmed on both the official Sonic Academy page, where the download file is named "SA76 v1.0.3," and the plugin's KVR Audio listing, which shows 1.0.3 as the latest version for macOS and Windows. No itemized changelog for this build was found, so readers should check Sonic Academy's support site for release-specific notes. What distinguishes SA76 is the way it layers modern conveniences over the original's character. It keeps the familiar 1176 controls, including Input and Output, Attack and Release, and the Ratio settings of 4, 8, 12, 20, and ALL, and adds Gain Linking, which adjusts the output as you adjust the input. A mix control enables parallel compression, a sidechain input and drive stage widen the tonal and routing options, and stereo width controls round out the set. Attack and release can be set anywhere from subtle compression to harder, colored limiting.
