Buena Depth Cue 2.5.8

Buena Depth Cue is a set of plugins for Adobe After Effects including Depth, Rack Focus, Camera Mapper, Flipside, Atmosphere and Falloff Lighting. They simulate realistic Z-depth, focus pulls and camera projected 2.5D environments from a single common grayscale depth map. Version 2.5.8 for After Effects CS5 through Creative Cloud on Mac and Windows was originally developed by Digieffects and is now maintained by Rowbyte LLC.

About Buena Depth Cue 2.5.8 for Mac

Buena Depth Cue is a set of Adobe After Effects plugins that are based on one idea: simulating realistic Z-depth in 2D compositions without the use of practical depth of field captured in-camera. The suite, initially developed by Digieffects and now developed and supported by Rowbyte LLC (distributed through aescripts + aeplugins), enables motion designers and compositors to create depth maps, pull focus between layers and project 2D footage onto simulated 3D surfaces — all within a standard After Effects timeline. The current build, version 2.5.8, runs on Adobe After Effects CS5, CS5.5, CS6 and Creative Cloud for Windows and Macintosh. Unlike standard depth-of-field or 3D-camera tools, Buena Depth Cue’s layer-based, grayscale depth-map approach allows artists to paint or generate a depth map, which then informs other Buena Depth Cue plugins how to behave regarding a focus, fog, lighting or perspective across a layer or composition, rather than physically moving a camera or re-building a scene in 3D. This enables you to add convincing focus pulls, atmospheric haze, directional lighting falloff and even camera-projected 2.5D environments to flat footage in post production without leaving After Effects or exporting to a separate 3D application. After After Effects moved to CS6 and Creative Cloud, Rowbyte rewrote a lot of the plugin set to get it working again. If you have an old license for CS5.5 or earlier, you can keep using your original build. If you are on CS6 or newer, you’ll need the updated 2.x release to keep things running reliably.

Key Features

Creates a grayscale depth map for a layer or composition, a “alpha channel” for focus rather than transparency, that other Buena Depth Cue plugins use to apply depth

based effects.

Focus pull

up

It sets up depth of field and a Z

distance focus target right in the timeline, allowing artists to pull focus between objects or text as a cinematographer would do, using the depth map as a guide.

Projects a 2

D photo or video clip onto simple 3-D solids placed within the scene, allowing a virtual camera to move through what was once flat footage without leaving After Effects.
