About Black Salt Audio Instinct EQ 1.0.2 for Mac
Instinct EQ is an equalizer plugin developed by Black Salt Audio, released April 2026, built around a deliberately unconventional idea: removing visual frequency analyzers and numeric readouts entirely so mixing decisions come purely from listening. Available as a VST3, AU, and AAX plugin for macOS and Windows, Instinct EQ is also included as part of Black Salt Audio's Artist Pass bundle alongside the company's other plugins and educational content. Version 1.0.2 is the current release in the plugin's early update cycle following its initial 1.0.0 launch. What makes Instinct EQ genuinely different from virtually every other modern EQ plugin is what it deliberately leaves out: no curve display, no frequency numbers, no gain readouts — just knobs, your ears, and the music. The developer designed this specifically to combat what it calls the "visual capture effect," where a mixer's eyes override what their ears are actually telling them about a track. The plugin's four-band EQ (High, Dual Mid, Low) uses broad, musical curves for natural boosts and cuts without phasey or harsh artifacts, with selectable shelf and peak modes on the High and Low bands and switchable wide/narrow bell curves on the two overlapping Mid bands. A separate Surgery module adds notch filters specifically for transparent resonance removal, and an optional analog-mode adds warmth and glue, all operated entirely by ear with a quick on/off switch for A/B comparison.
