Does bIRC work with ZNC or soju?

It does. Missed messages replay on reconnect for both. Managing soju networks from inside the app needs Pro, but you can still connect to soju as a regular server for free.

Is bIRC’s scripting free?

Scripting is listed among the Pro features. Scripts are JavaScript files that run in a sandbox.

Can I use bIRC over Tor?

Yes. There’s a built-in SOCKS5 preset for Tor, and hostnames are looked up at the proxy so DNS requests don’t leak.

About bIRC 1.3 for Mac

bIRC is a native IRC client made by Swedish developer Fredrik Blank. It launched on the Mac App Store in July 2026, after a closed beta. It supports the classic IRC protocol plus many newer IRCv3 extensions. Those add things IRC never used to have: reactions, threaded replies, typing indicators, deleting your own messages, and server-side chat history. These only work on networks that support them. The app looks and behaves like a normal Mac app, with native windows, toolbars, system notifications and light and dark mode. It’s not a web page in a wrapper. The developer hangs out in #birc on the OFTC network if you want to talk to him directly.
